5 Things You Can Do to Feel More Confident
Do you ever have those days where you wake up, wander to the bathroom, look at yourself, and groan at your reflection? Or maybe you’ve been putting off asking for that promotion or buying (and negotiating) a big purchase, but just don’t feel prepared enough to make it happen. This lack of self-confidence plagues all of us, and if you’ve been caught in the sticky spiral of loathing, here’s how to fix it.
1. Recite some positive mantras
Repeating positive affirmations to yourself -- when you first wake up, before you go to bed, when you're stressed -- is scientifically proven to make you feel more capable. Most of us are our own worst critics, and we fail to treat yourselves with kindness and positive thinking. The next time you're feeling down and are beating yourself up, speak to your mind the way you would speak to a friend. Be uplifting and remember that whatever you're going through, you have the strength and willpower to make it through. And even better? Tell yourself positive mantras even when there isn't a crisis so it becomes a habit.
2. Get your hair trimmed
If you're a woman who has ever left a hair appointment feeling like a million bucks, then you know exactly what I'm talking about. It seems weird, but there's something about your new bouncy, blown out hair that gives you an insane confidence boost (I always leave feeling like I could lift a car.) I cut off 7 (yep, 7) inches off this past summer, and it was like a weight had been lifted off my shoulders (quite literally.) It's a transformation, no matter how small, that inspires you to put your best foot forward.
3. Whiten your teeth
Smiling immediately makes you more approachable, friendly, and self-assured. Having a smile you’re proud of is a complete game changer -- in your relationships, your work, and your demeanor. I’ve partnered with Smile Brilliant to give you the opportunity to professionally brighten your smile (see my incredible results below) in as little as 45 minutes every other day -- my smile is whiter than it's ever been. The results are astounding, and I feel so much more polished, professional, and ready to take on the day knowing my smile is ready too! And to prove the lasting power of the kit, my "after" photo was taken over 2 months after I had wrapped up treatment. They custom-fit their whitening trays to your smile, and there’s no mess! I cannot wait for you to try it too (and have a smile you’re excited to show off!)

4. Tackle that big project
You know the one that you’ve been putting off, while saying, “oh I’ll do it next week?”Accomplishing a dream or finishing a project that’s been bugging you is such a confidence boost! Start with just 15 minutes (brainstorm during your commute, wake up a bit early, take part of your lunch break) and create an action plan full of obtainable, easy-to-track goals to get you started. You’d be surprised how much lighter you feel, more inspired, and more sure of yourself once you slowly start chipping away. You can do it!
5. Write down every goal you’ve accomplished this year
Yes, you can check off “writing down every goal I accomplished” and count that! Taking stock of this year’s accomplishments can be huge in boosting your confidence at work, your relationships, and your mental health. Instead of perseverating about all of the things that didn’t get done this year, focus on the ones that happened. Did you get a raise? Were you able to fund a solo international trip because of good saving habits? Did you workout on a (semi)regular basis? Write them all down and check them all off -- it’ll feel awesome.
Confidence is not randomly acquired, it is built through self-betterment and self-satisfaction. Strive towards being the best “you” you can be, but don’t forget that you are absolutely capable of everything you set your mind to.
